The verse pattern implies the crotchet quarter-note pulse using opposing accents (not unisons) between floor-tom rim-click, x-stick snare and small-tom. Applying rim-clicks on the floor-tom for the verse, small-tom on chorus and hi-hats in the solo section creates sonic variations as a creative process which develops your own ‘sound’ and ‘feel’...not forgetting the bass drum is playing its own individual part and left-foot hi-hat is on beats 2 & 4 underpinning the whole rhythm.
